Q&A With Our Amazing Firestarter Interns

NAME: Melissa Mignelli
INTERNSHIP TERM: Summer 2014 (May-Aug)
ABOUT MEL: I completed my undergraduate degree in Media at Queen’s University and am about to start the Marketing Management program at Humber College. I’m an avid sports fan, with a love for all things marketing, technology, and fashion. Well-timed reaction .gifs are my weakness.

What interested you most about TTG/TORQUE when you were looking for an internship?
When I first began researching TTG I really loved the story of how the company came to fruition. More so, I loved that the firm is passionate about sport, people and culture – that was something I wanted to be a part of!

What is the day in the life of a TTG/TORQUE intern like?
I usually start off by making a priority list for the day before working on a research project of some sort (be it brand, consumer, category, or social research). Fun field trips to help with client servicing have appeared on the agenda a few times. Finally, the afternoon often brings with it sales meetings, ideation sessions and new project discussions…and on Fridays, we Chill n Chat!

What is your favorite part about being a TTG/TORQUE intern?
Working alongside and learning from people who have awesome experience in the sport, sponsorship, and marketing industry. Also, being encouraged to ‘creep’ on social media for demographic research purposes.

What was one thing about the sponsorship industry that surprised you the most?
How absolutely vital exceptional client servicing is to carrying out a successful partnership and developing a lasting relationship.

How has your internship shaped your vision for your future career path?
The sponsorship industry is much larger than I initially imagined and is becoming an increasingly integral part of authentic storytelling in a cluttered marketing landscape – that’s all to say, sponsorship is definitely an area I’d like to pursue in the future!
